Fees and costs

What you can expect to pay, and who sends you an account.

All figures on this page are estimates.

Your final costs may be higher or lower depending on your clinical circumstances. Before any surgery you will be given a written Surgical Procedure Estimate setting out the figures that apply to you.

Consultation fees

$300estimated, initial consultation
in the rooms or by telephone

Payment is required immediately following your consultation. If your bank details are registered with Medicare, we are able to send the claim electronically on your behalf and your rebate is paid directly into your account. For a telephone consultation you will be sent a secure payment link by SMS after your appointment.

Your surgical estimate

When your surgery is booked we will give you a written Surgical Procedure Estimate. It sets out the name of your procedure and the Medicare item numbers that apply to it.

You should check with your health fund that you are covered for those item numbers in a private hospital. It is worth doing this as soon as you receive your estimate — gaps in cover found late can delay or cancel a booking.

The known gap

For insured patients we use a known gap arrangement: a single, fixed out-of-pocket amount for the surgeon's fee, told to you in advance and payable before your surgery.

$500for many procedures — but the amount that applies to you
is the one written on your Surgical Procedure Estimate

You can pay by American Express, Visa, Mastercard or direct debit using the secure link on your estimate. You will also receive an SMS message containing the link.

Other accounts you will receive

Your surgeon's fee is not the only cost of an operation. These accounts come from other providers and are not controlled by your surgeon.

Anaesthetist and surgical assistant
Your anaesthetist will send a separate account. Their name and contact details are on your Surgical Procedure Estimate, and you can phone their office for a quotation before your surgery. Where a surgical assistant is required, they are also named on your estimate.
Hospital
The main hospital costs are for the bed and the theatre fee. If you have private insurance these costs are covered, excluding any excess you may have — the more excess you agree to contribute up front as part of your cover, the lower your health cover payments will be. These costs are not controlled by your surgeon and you should check them with your private health fund. If you do not have private health cover, ask the hospital’s Theatre Booking Department for a quote prepared specifically for the hospital at which you will be treated.
Other costs
There may be other costs for ancillary services provided as part of your admission and care, including pathology, histopathology, radiology and pharmacy. These may be partly or completely covered if you have private insurance.
